What is Chiropractic

Chiropractic focuses on musculoskeletal and nervous systems disorders and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic most often treats neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back, neck, headache, and extremity pain. It is a system of adjusting the segments of the spinal column for the correction of the cause of disease without the use of drugs or surgery.

Many people experience Chiropractic as a natural drug-free way to achieve better health. Chiropractors work on the spine and the vertebral column realigning the bones by way of spinal adjusting. Chiropractors are now the leading specialists in neck, back, and headache pain management. We find however that many other great results happen for our patients as a result of aligning the vertebrae.

How Does It Work?

As a result of aligning the vertebrae we find that our patients are not only back, neck, and headache free, but also are experiencing many other symptomatic improvements. For example, a little boy who no longer suffers from ear infection may tell you: “Chiropractic is for my ears”!

A young woman may tell you: “chiropractic helped my menstrual problems!” Others may tell you Chiropractic is for their digestive problems, asthma, colds, sciatica, neurological problems, colic, bed-wetting and many other conditions. Many people are chiropractic advocates because they feel adjustments give them more energy, improved sports performance, and improved resistance to disease. Chiropractors today are trained not only to realign the vertebrae and remove pressure on the nerves but also to provide whole body care by means of nutrition, diet, and exercise. Chiropractors are becoming the largest healing group to provide integrative treatment by means of chiropractic adjustments and nutrition.

The spinal column encases the spinal cord. The spinal cord is a bundle of nerves that travels from the brain and exit the spinal column to every cell, tissue, muscle and organ of the body through the spinal vertebrae. These 31 pair of nerves, each one having over 300,000 nerve fibers, run from the brain out through the spinal openings to every part of our bodies. The spinal vertebra are capable of moving up to (16 different directions individually).

When these spinal vertebrae become misaligned the nerves can become pinched. As a result of nerve flow impairment, energy is not able to circulate to the intended organ. In Chiropractic we call this a “subluxation”. Often pain is a sign or symptom of vertebral subluxation or pinched nerve; however, nerves may be slightly pinched without pain. At this point only a Chiropractor is trained sufficiently to tell if a spinal misalignment is causing your problem. When nerves are pinched our bodies do not function at capacity.

Chiropractic adjustments realign the vertebrae relieving the pressure on the nerves. In this way many patients experience Chiropractic as a natural drug-free way to get healthy.
